The weather was perfect for a good game of football. Cold, with light rain. We met the Daggers fans, locked out of shephallbury, and our pre match warm up started in the car park.
The match ref decided that slide tackles and over-heads were allowed in this 6-a-side match, and with a crowd of about 20, Boroguide kicked off. They passed the ball around well from the outset, moving well and looking for the ball. Before Dagenham even did anything meaningful, Bendinio took a snap shot, the Dagenham goalkeeper couldn't grip the ball, and it fell into the net. 1-0.
Boroguide were all keeping their positions well, with Lighthouse and Jock staying at the back. Bendinio and Thora securing the midfield, and getting the ball to Jasper up front, who was already doing a good job of linking the play together. The most dangerous Daggers player was their Captain, Robert Parish, and it was he who got the Daggers first, placing the ball to the side of Burgers in the Boroguide goal. Up until this point the game was free flowing, but the Lighthouse put in some good, hard tackles, and stopped some shots going in.
Jock was winning everything he was going for, and Bendinio, Thora and Jasper were linking up beautifully. The attacks were beginning to become relentless, and it was a matter of time before Thora, then Jasper but Boroguide 3-1 up. However Lighthouse pushed Robert Parish and a freekick was given. The freekick missed the goal, but rebounded to Danny Campbell who slotted into the net. 3-2 at H/T
The home team took the initiative in the second half, and a quick double strike courtesy of Thora and Jasper again allowed them to make best use of their squad rotation system, and take their foot off the gas for the last ten minutes. Some champagne football moments followed, with slick passing moves and long periods of possession.
The vocal crowd were enjoying the game, despite the wind and rain, and weren't disheartened even when Daggers pulled back a consolation in the last 5 minutes. Boro' just went up the other end and get another to restore the three-goal cushion and seal a fine 6-3 win in their maiden fixture, as Thora grabbed his hat-trick to claim the match ball.
