BoroChat is the internet messageboard for fans of Stevenage Borough FC. While we don't
seek to create an environment whereby use is restricted or nannied, we do request that
some basic rules are followed and that 'netiquette' is adhered to where possible. If you
are new and not sure of the appropriate style, sit back and watch the conversation for a
short time and you should soon pick it up, else do not be afraid to ask!
Rules & Etiquette
1 - What Goes?
The forum is viewed as an online extension to the terrace or social club - discussions
should cover most club matters, on and off the pitch. However, unrelated topics are still
allowed, so long as they are in moderation and do not begin to overrun the forum. For more
guidance on 'off topic' posting, see the note further below.
2 - Use A Name When Posting
While putting a name to your messages is not mandatory, it makes it much easier to
identify who's posting what, to associate posters from one message to the next and allows
you to have much more credence and respect from fellow users.
3 - Double-Posting
If a message is posted to the forum then it will stay there for a number of weeks, so once
you have posted something it will be available for everyone to read for some time.
Therefore, please refrain from posting the same message more than once. If there is
unncessary double-posting then messages may be deleted.
4 - Personal Abuse
Personal abuse will never be tolerated, and such posts are highly likely to be
deleted. BoroChat administrators have access to the details of every user's ISP and can
track these details, and any inflamatory abuse will be reported.
What Is 'Off Topic'?
We don't talk about Boro' 100% of the time, even at the games, so such rule need not apply
on the forum as well so long as sensible guidelines are kept to, which allow
identification for members, and easy avoidance for those who are not interested:
- subject lines should be suffixed with the notation "o/t" or some appropriate
alternative in order that other visitors are aware that this is a non-football related
message. This should apply both to new threads and existing threads that begin on-topic
but move off-topic
- where certain topics become repeated areas of conversation, new threads relating to this
should be restricted sensibly by the posters - a suggested frequency is weekly (we cite
Cardboard's "o/t - Friday Music Thread" as a particularly good example of how
this works
- off-topic threads should not descend into 'instant message' type conversations between
two users
Personal Messages
On occasion personal messages are posted to the forum. These are tolerated within sensible
bounds, and should not descend into 'instant message' type personal conversations between
users. They should be suffixed with the notation "FAO:" (For the Attention Of),
and once acknowledged are anyway liable to deletion.
Using HTML in posts...
Links (or hyperlinks to give them their full name) are clickable words that act as a
portal to another webpage, be it on the same site or another one. The forum allows you to
create your own links to other pages, and this is done by using the below text, replacing
the blue sections with the full URL and your chosen text:
<a href="url here">text
here</a>
So for example by typing the text:
<a href="http://www.boroguide.co.uk">BoroGuide Homepage</a>
I would create the following link - BoroGuide Homepage
The pointed brackets < and > are used to identify 'tags' that tell your browser that
something in the text will chage. Other popular types of tag are:
Bold Tag - <b>This text in bold</b> becomes This
text in bold
Italic Tag - <i>This text italicised</i>
becomes This text italicised
Image Tag - Using the instruction <img src="full url of
image"> sources an image

forum readers, the administrators cannot screen everything that is posted. If you do spot
any abuse of the forum, please report it to the team.
