Stagadoo-Doo-Doo…

Push pineapple, and shake that tree! Yes, it’s Mansfield Town indoors – part deux; a second crack at trying to get this fixture noted in the records as ‘Completed’. For our non-dom readers or those of you recently out of hibernation, the last time the Stags were meant to be popping round for tea and biscuits was axed when the town of Stevenage was wiped off the map by snow. For 12 hours. Still, good weather for polar bears – right?

We’ve had a look out the window and we’re probably good to go with this one now. And, well, hasn’t a lot be doing since the original 2 March date of this fixture? Back then, Mansfield had just seen boss Steve Evans up and leave for Posh; putting new gaffer David Flitcroft at the wheel just a day before they were due round to ours. Oh, and we’ve also seen a change of personnel in the dugout too. As you ruddy well know, you scamps.

Stevenage v Mansfield Town: The Lowdown

The Referee

PW0 D1 LFA2; last result: Tranmere Rovers 2-2 Stevenage, 01/11/2014

Seb Stockbridge is down for this gig once again; the Appointments Panel having no cause to think twice. It is only the second time we’ve been in his company too, not that it has any bearing on things. Well, you’d think…

The Opposition

P11 WDLF16 A15; last result: Mansfield Town 1-0 Stevenage, 18/11/2017

Each game between us and them since our first meeting nearly 10 years ago has produced a winner. And, by that same measure, they have produced a loser too. Sadly, we’re on the wrong side of history at the moment. This is because we’ve lost the last two meetings by a single goal; both 1-0 losses and both in the last calendar year. We don’t know about you, but we’re well up for balancing the books with a win here.

The Form

What a difference a month-and-a-bit makes, eh? We’re not talking about the new faces in the dugouts, mainly because we’ve already talked about that. No, this is about where Mansfield Town were… and where they now are. Fifth in the division and eight points off top; the Stags had taken 13 points from a possible 18 (or 23 from 30) in the run-up to our original date. Only leaders Accrington could flaunt a better record at that time.

Now, however, the Stags are in a bit of freefall; amassing a paltry two points from a possible 18 and losing the last four on the spin. Not that their promotion hopes are dead. After all, we’d bite your arm off to be just two points outside the playoffs with five matches to play. Their cause isn’t helped by conceding in each of their last eight matches, however; matches they haven’t been winning. And it’d be awfully nice if we can make that nine.

kickoff.co.uk is starting to put more green on our graphics, and for that we are happy…
