Stevenage v Bristol Rovers: A small smile allowed

Mmmm, nearly there.

In the context of our season that was (or still technically is), that weekend win indoors against Newport is as good as we can hope for. Not only did it bump us up the table for the first time since November, but it put us 12 points clear of the forlorn looking York. And when there’s just 12 points left up for grabs as far as the current campaign goes, there’s a rotund dame in the house and she’s all but broken into song.

Stevenage v Bristol Rovers: Pirates Ahoy

A midweek meeting with high-flying Brizzle Rizzle gives us the chance to underline our Football League status with big feckin’ red marker pens and glitter dust. It was, of course, the Gas who let us end our record-breaking 13-game winless stretch on the road in November. Mind you, you don’t hustle and bustle into the automatic promotion places without shaping up and that’s what they’ve done since we last met.

It’s at the Memorial Ground where our guests excel, having won their last seven outings on their own patch. On the road, it’s more varied – but only just. It’s a formidable test ahead of us this evening and the form book tells us they certainly know a thing or three about scoring and not conceding. In the last six on their travels, Bristol Rovers have lost three, but have averaged nearly two goals a game in doing so.

You can’t be too surprised that the visitors are heavily fancied for this match, based on the latest bookmakers odds. We’re 10/3 to complete the job we started back in November. We’ve a feeling in our water that Both Teams To Score is the one too, a 10/11 shot with Will Hill. But the awful pessimist in us reckons that it’ll be York and the Daggers’ failure to win tonight that’ll cause us cheer – not our own efforts.
