BoroGuide was originally born out of frustration in the pre-season of 2002. When we say frustration, we mean it in that before then, there was no real alternative Stevenage Borough website to rival the Official Site. But hopefully, with BoroGuide, we have a formula that will succeed where others have failed in the past.
A partnership formed between the webmasters after a message on the Stevenage Borough E-Group, and here we are now - in the midst of the fruits of our labour since mid-June 2002.
In the summer of 2006, due to increasing time restrictions on both editors, the decision was made to discontinue the match report and continuous statistics service. The decision was made after realising that failing to keep up to date with recent matches and developments does not look favourably upon us as a website. As a result, BoroGuide will focus on providing a more comprehensive version of existing features such as club and player profiles.
The site is primarily run by Mark & Pete (profiles below), but major credit should also be afforded to Ken Jude who has provided support for some of the stat-generating software and offered directional guidance, and also to Steve Watkins who kindly provides the post-match inteviews we've been featuring since March 2004 as well as some images. Further images have also been supplied by Kevin Coleman as well as NTM, plus a significant amount of Boro'-related data from Dave Paul, which will help support the archive portions of the site as we continue to backdate the results history.
We hope that despite recent changes, BoroGuide continues to remain a wealth of invaluable information to the Boro' supporters, as well as opposition fans visiting Stevenage.

The first Stevenage game i saw was a friendly against a Spurs side, probably around 1985/6 which featured many star names, the only one of which i can remember, oddly, being Johnny Metgod! Of course first games always leave memories, and a fascinating 3-3 draw (i think!) had me hooked. I then made the odd jaunt down about 5-10 times a season until the early nineties, and the Diadora Premier seasons were when my interest really perked up.
A 3-year leave of absence for University misdemeanours between 1998 and 2001 meant that my relience upon the internet for Boro' information grew. I became a committee member for the successful 'Fair Play for the National Game' campaign and this fuelled my desire to run a Boro'-related site.
I think my most vivid pre-conference memory was the last-day game against Harrow in the Diadora, with over 3,000 announced as attending on the day, though we all knew that that was a bit conservative ;o). Oddly my two most memorable league fixtures were both against Macclesfield, once at Moss Rose as we overturned the Champions on 'their day' 3-0, and any casual observer on the day wouldn't have been able to guess who the champions really were. The other game was at home to Macc in the Championship winning season, and Tony Lynch netting from about 40 yards off the post as he had done so many times that season. In honesty it was probably about 25 yards, but every year it seems to get about another 5 yards away!!
As goes memorable/favourite players, i think i shall remember Martin Gittings, Dave Venables and Tony Lynch for many years to come as representatives of the early nineties, and chapionship success after championship success. More recently i would name Paul Barrowcliffe, Rob Trott, and Ryan Kirby as my Boro' favourites.

In 1995, I decided that Ware FC just didn't provide what I was looking for in a club, so I switched allegiance to Stevenage Borough and consequently saw them lift the title that season. During 2001/02, I made over 20 games, most of which were since Boxing Day, and that total eclipses the previous amounts in past seasons. Unfortunately, 2002/03 was hampered by work commitments, but with midweek games never far from reach, I kept up my presence, with the trip to Telford sticking in the memory.
My favourite Boro' memories were the FA Trophy Final, the FA Trophy Semi-Finals against Morecambe and the 4-0 win over Woking in 1996. The 3-1 win over Hereford in the last Conference game of the 2001/2 season was also strangely memorable - I don't know why. Naturally, it would be hard to overlook the 2004/5 playoffs as a great Boro' memory, but also the FA Cup away day to Swansea City in 2003.
Over the years I have been fortunate to see some of Boro's great players in action, from Efetobore Sodje to Barry Hayles, Carl Alford to Jean-Michel Sigere. Due to university commitments in the deepest reaches of South Wales, my personal attendance record has been abysmal but my love for the club will persevere.
